Kristen Bell’s #NOKIDSPOLICY Movement
Abuse and harassment of entertainment kids, and children of celebrities, at the hands of the paparazzi, is well documented. However, when it comes to protecting the highly vulnerable children of celebrities, Kristen Bell has almost single-handedly created a movement against the offending paparazzi.”
In August 2013, supported by the compelling presence of actresses Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner, the California legislature held dramatic breakthrough hearings in an effort to step up the protections for a targeted group of children — children of celebrities — by proposing new laws and criminal penalties against paparazzi that illegally harass them. The two actresses, both of who are Moms, testified before the Senate about some of the horrors their children and the children of other celebrities regularly face at the hands of the paparazzi. Their impact was enormous and, Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill that became law effective January 1, 2014.
Then, and again in January, actress and Mom, Kristen Bell, who has been referred to as “one of the coolest and busiest women in Hollywood” turned this cause, literally overnight, into a grassroots movement, that started with a single Tweet. The response was strong – overwhelming, and followed by an appearance on ET (Entertainment Tonight). During that interview, the radiant and always brilliant host and journalist, Nancy O’Dell, asked Kristen and Dax Shepard about their concerns, and to explain the #NoKidsPolicy. The interview ended with Kristen’s call to action, that ET refuse to publish photos of children of celebrities that are taken against their parents’ wishes. ET without hesitation, accepted, and a wave of support across the industry followed.
As most know, Kristen stars on Showtime’s House of Lies, is the voice of Anna in the Disney’s blockbuster movie Frozen, and very recently turned Veronica Mars, a fan-favorite TV show, into a hit movie by raising over $5 million dollars on Kickstarter to finance the project!
“I expected to hit brick walls everywhere but I wasn’t sleeping well at night and had to do something,” says Kristen. “I signed up to be an actor but I also signed up to be a mom — and I take that much more seriously. This isn’t a celebrity issue, it’s a parent issue and no child should be stalked.” See: https://queenlatifah.com/lifestyle/heroes/kristen-bell-supports-nokidspolicy-and-path/
Kristen is leading the charge in the #NoKidsPolicy movement with her husband Dax Shepard. She and Dax have made it their mission to stop paparazzi photographers from harassing celebrity children and from taking those without their parents consent. In calling for a boycott against those using illegally obtained images, Kristen virtually coined the phrase “pedorazzi” to describe this group of paparazzi.
I not only applaud Kristen, I am here to make it clear that I support her movement in every way. She and her husband have already won the support of several major magazines, blog sites, television programs, and a host of A-List celebrities, listed below. Each has either pledged support or vowed not buy and publish the offensively taken photos.
